Umbrella insurance Yorba Linda, CA

Umbrella insurance starts where your other limits stop.

An umbrella policy adds liability limit on top of your home and auto policies. When a judgment runs past what those pay, the umbrella takes over instead of your assets, your equity, and your future wages. It only works if the underlying limits are set where the carrier requires.

You'll know what's excluded before you sign.

What's covered

What does a personal umbrella policy do?

It sits above the liability limits you already carry and pays after they are exhausted.

Extra limit above home and auto

Adds liability capacity over both policies at once. A serious injury claim can pass a standard auto liability limit quickly, and the balance is yours without an umbrella.

Defense costs

Pays legal defense in a covered suit, generally in addition to the limit rather than out of it. Defense on a contested claim is expensive even when you win.

Some claims your base policies exclude

Depending on the form, libel, slander, and false arrest can be covered. Business activity and intentional acts are excluded on every umbrella we write.

Required underlying limits

Carriers require minimum liability limits on the policies underneath. If yours are lower, we raise them first — otherwise there is a gap between the two layers.

Why Michael Duvall Insurance Agency

Why people move their policies here.

What it's like to have one agency for everything.

  • You'll know what's excluded before you sign

We go through what the policy does not pay for — water backup, roof settlement, ordinance and law, wildfire smoke limits — while you can still change it. Surprises belong before the claim, not after.

  • The same two people know your whole file

Home, auto, business — it's all with the same office, and the same two people remember your last call. You never start over with someone new or re-explain your house at renewal.

  • Choices, explained side by side

We're an independent agency. We put several California-admitted carriers next to each other and show you the differences in writing, so the decision is yours to make.

Questions

Umbrella questions, answered plainly.

Who actually needs an umbrella policy?+
Households with equity, retirement accounts, rental property, a pool, a trampoline, a dog, or a teen driver. Those are the situations where a liability claim can pass the underlying limit, and everything above it comes from you.
Do I have to move my home and auto to get one?+
Often yes. Most carriers will only write an umbrella over policies they also write, and all of them require the underlying limits to meet a minimum. We check both before quoting.
What is not covered by an umbrella policy?+
Intentional acts, business and professional activity, and anything the underlying policy excludes for a non-limit reason. Damage to your own property is not covered either — this is liability coverage only.
